Defoe tipped to replace Morelos
If Alfredo Morelos leaves Rangers, former boss Ally McCoist believes that Jermain Defoe can be the main man for the club next season.
Despite being under contract at Ibrox until 2023, Colombian Morelos, who has been sent-off five times this season, is expected to move on in the summer and there are plenty who think the Gers should cash in given his indiscipline on the field.
If that happens, McCoist has no doubt Defoe will be able to step up.
"I don't think there is any doubt about that," he told the Evening Times.
"Steven (Gerrard) would still need to strengthen, but there is no doubt he could go in and do that because he is a good player.
"If Morelos was to go I would certainly think that you would need someone else in, but you could easily have the option of having Defoe there with Scott Arfield playing off of him.
"He has an awful lot to offer. He is a great player and an England international. There is a lot more to his game than just finishing, although he clearly can finish."
