Gerrard full of praise for Morelos

8th November 2019, 16:14 by Bobbie Jackson

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard heaped praise on striker Alfredo Morelos after he starred in Thursday's Europa League win over Porto.

Morelos took his tally for the season to 21 goals across all competitions when he broke the deadlock on a crunch night at Ibrox.

The Colombian also played a key part in Gers’ second goal, assisting Steven Davis, as they went on to wrap up a 2-0 win over last season’s Champions League quarter-finalists.

Rangers sit second in Group G, three points clear of Feyenoord and Porto in third and fourth respectively, after taking four points from their two meetings with Porto, having drawn the away fixture 1-1 on October 24.

Gerrard had to bat away further speculation over Morelos’ future on Sunday following his brace in the 3-0 Betfred Cup semi-final win over Hearts, and he insists he will never tire of speaking about the 23-year-old.

“That’s the reason we talk about him every two or three days,” said Gerrard.

“We’ll never run out of things to say if he keeps providing performances and moments like that. Players who keep producing moments like that deserve praise.

“I will never get bored of talking about him. He is a top player and I can’t describe how much I enjoy working with him. He’s a massive, massive asset to this club.”

Morelos hit 30 goals across all competitions last season, matching his best-ever haul, and he is already well on the way to bettering that tally.

But reports suggest Rangers could struggle to retain his services beyond the current campaign and possibly even after January.

A host of Premier League clubs have been linked with the former HJK hitman and Rangers could be forced into a sale if the price is right.
