Gers close in on Kent
Rangers are closing in on a £7million deal for Liverpool winger Ryan Kent, reports claim.
Former England Under-20 international Kent spent last season on loan at Ibrox and he was a regular first-team fixture, making 27 Scottish Premiership appearances and scoring six goals in the process.
It was thought Rangers, who lost 2-0 at home to Celtic on Sunday, would wrap up a permanent deal for the winger at the start of the summer transfer window but both clubs struggled to come to an agreement.
Liverpool were intent on only allowing the 22-year-old to leave Anfield on a permanent basis, with Jurgen Klopp saying another loan move would not benefit some of the fringe players.
Reports are now claiming a £7million fee has been agreed and Kent, who first joined the Reds’ youth ranks back in 2003, is expected to complete his move before Monday’s midnight deadline.
Steven Gerrard is believed to have fought off the likes of Club Brugge, who also failed in a bid for Tottenham midfielder Victor Wanyama, for the Englishman’s signature.
James Mason grew up in Northumberland so is entrenched in both the football and golf scenes. A low handicap golfer, he also follows Newcastle United and predicts big things under Rafa Benitez.
