Reds won’t budge on Kent

21st August 2019, 18:33

Rangers have been told by Liverpool that they will not change their attitude towards Ryan Kent's future.

The winger spent last term on loan at Ibrox, winning the Scottish Young Player of the Year award for his efforts.

A place in the Reds’ squad under Jurgen Klopp was proposed after a decent pre-season but he is yet to feature in 2019-20.

In fact, Kent only has one Liverpool appearance to his name, featuring in a 2-2 draw away at Exeter in the FA Cup in 2016. He has since spent time on loan at Barnsley, SC Freiburg and Bristol City.

Rangers are the club where he enjoyed the most success though, and there were reports early on Wednesday that he would ‘down tools‘ to help force through a return to Glasgow.

Klopp suggested last month that Liverpool would only entertain a permanent offer for Kent, arguing that he had outgrown loan spells and that the time had come for him to move on.

A fee of £7m has been quoted and Gers’ boss Steven Gerrard has admitted that figure would be beyond the board, but it is thought they have made a fresh approach to the Anfield hierarchy regarding a loan.

However, Liverpool are unlikely to budge on their demands and Kent is not expected to get his reported wish of returning north of the border.
