Djokovic's campaign could be over
Novak Djokovic's season may be over as he is reportedly set for shoulder surgery.
The world number one was forced to retire during his fourth round match with Stan Wawrinka at the US Open after struggling with the problem throughout the tournament.
Djokovic will now undergo minor surgery to correct the problem, according to ABC, which will rule him out for the remainder of the season.
The Serb will almost certainly lose his place at the top of the ATP rankings if he doesn't play again this year as Rafael Nadal is just 640 points behind him in the standings, while Roger Federer could also jump ahead of Djokovic and push him down to number three if he enjoys a strong end to the campaign.
If Djokovic does go under the knife he should be fit for the start of next season.
