Evans no match for Shapovalov

23rd March 2019, 19:25 by Tom Hill

British number three Dan Evans has been knocked out of the Miami Open after losing to Denis Shapovalov.

The world number 97 made a great start on Saturday as he claimed the first set 6-4.

Shapovalov then found his rhythm to level the match after romping the second set 6-1.

Evans was then no match for his rival in the decider, with Shapovalov defending two break points to eventually secure a 4-6 6-1 6-3 success.

Shapovalov will now take on either Croatia's ninth seed Marin Cilic or Russia's Andrey Rublev in the third round.

Elsewhere in the tournament, Argentina's Guido Pella is out after losing to Leonardo Mayer, while Joao Sousa overcame Steve Johnson.
