Konta given tough time by in-form Vekic
Johanna Konta battled hard as she suffered a straight sets defeat to third seed Donna Vekic at the Mexican Open in Acapulco.
The British number one was dispatched 6-3 7-5 by the 22-year-old Croatian, who is yet to drop a set at the WTA International event.
Both players traded early breaks in a nervy opening two games, but Vekic claimed the edge at 5-3, before going on to serve out the first set.
Konta, the number eight seed, opened the second set by losing her serve but dug in to break her Croatian opponent at 2-2 and again for a 5-3 lead.
But the Briton could not maintain her momentum and lost the final four games of the match as Vekic advanced to her third semi-final of the year after one hour and 26 minutes on court.
