Konta relishing 2018 campaign

13th January 2018, 15:01 by Tom Hill

Johanna Konta admits she is determined to learn from her mistakes and win a Grand Slam in 2018 after a superb campaign this year.

Konta hit the headlines for all the right reasons in 2017 as he reached a career-high ninth in the WTA world rankings.

She started the year by reaching the last eight of the Australian Open before then advancing into the final four at Wimbledon in July.

The 26-year-old made history by becoming the first Briton since 1978 to go so far in the ladies singles competition but she is refusing to rest on her laurels.

Konta has hired Maria Sharapova’s former coach Michael Joyce at the start of December and she admits is ready push on in 2018.

"I definitely notice people recognise me more on the street, especially after Wimbledon,” she told Sky Sports. "I definitely get more recognition but otherwise not much has changed.

"I burned out a little but and I’ve got to remember I’m still only in my second year on the tour. I’m still relatively young in terms of the amount of experience I have and I think it is all a learning curve for me."
