Kvitova aiming for Birmingham hat-trick
Petra Kvitova has confirmed she will attempt to make it a hat-trick of titles at the Birmingham Classic in June.
The Czech star won the event for the first time in 2017, just a matter of months after she had been the victim of a stabbing attack at her home.
The 29-year-old went on to successfully defend her title by beating Magdalena Rybarikova in last year's final and has now confirmed her participation at this year's event.
"Birmingham is one of the events on the calendar that I look forward to the most. I have beautiful memories from winning the title the past two years," Kvitova said.
"The tournament has a special atmosphere and makes the players feel so welcome. It will be amazing to be back there this summer."
Kvitova will be bidding to become just the second player to win three straight Birmingham Classics, following on from American Pam Shriver, who claimed four consecutive titles between 1984 and 1987.
This year's Birmingham Classic will take place between June 15-23 and will once again act as a prelude to Wimbledon, another event Kvitova has won on two occasions, with her last success at SW19 coming in 2014.
