Murray hits on court

2nd April 2019, 12:53 by Neil Foster

Three-time Grand Slam champion Andy Murray has enjoyed his first hit on court just two months after hip surgery.

The 31-year-old opted to go under the knife for the second time after revealing at the Australian Open that retirement was imminent due to the injury.

It seemed as though Melbourne Park might be his last outing but the former world number one opted for surgery in one final attempt to save his career.

The Scot admitted at the time that there was no guarantee of him playing again following the procedure, but saying he was "pain-free" last month was certainly positive.

Murray suggested that his chances of featuring at this summer's Wimbledon were "less than 50-50" after the operation but he has already made tentative steps back onto court.

The former US Open champion has posted a video on Instagram of him hitting against a wall alongside the caption: "It's a start."

The Davis Cup winner played a few tournaments last summer but was ineffective, opting to end his season early to try and prepare for 2019.
