Ukrainian teenager lifts Wimbledon junior title
Unseeded teenager Daria Snigur finished her junior career in style by taking the girl's singles title at Wimbledon on Saturday.
The 17-year-old defeated America's Alexa Noel 6-4 6-4 to become only the second Ukrainian to win that title and the fourth from the country to win a junior Grand Slam event.
Snigur battled back from big deficits in both sets as her American opponent, a year younger at just 16, used variation from the baseline to great effect early on.
She won five straight games from 4-1 down in the first set and six of the last seven on offer to take the second after being 3-0 down in the early stages.
"I can't believe it," she said after beating the number 10 seed.
"It was my dream. It's very good for me. I worked hard every day for this trophy. It's incredible.
"I finish my junior career here [with] very good feelings. It's very good for me, for my career I think, because I won 15, 25K [ITF Pro Circuit] women's tournaments. I want to win a Grand Slam, of course. It was my dream."
