Zverev full of praise for centurion Federer
Alexander Zverev wants to see Roger Federer continuing to reach milestones after the Swiss ace made it 100 wins on the ATP Tour.
Federer reached the momentous landmark by beating Stefanos Tsitsipas in the final of the Dubai Championships and is now just nine short of Jimmy Connors' overall record of 109.
German star Zverev has been one of many players, past and present, to pay tribute to Federer's latest achievement and has urged his rival to continue surpassing milestones, although not at his expense.
"I don’t know if I have won 100 matches in my career, but I wish you nothing but the best," Zverev said in a video message to Federer. "I wish you 100 more to come, but not against me. You have won a few against me already, so that is enough now.
"I wish you nothing but the best. What a great career and what a great person you are as well."
Zverev's record against Federer is actually better than most, as he has won three of the six previous meetings between the pair, including a victory in the final of the 2017 Rogers Cup.
The two players will both compete in this week's Indian Wells Masters, although they are on opposite sides of the draw and so the only way they will meet is if they both make it through to the final.
