Leclerc confident of overcoming Vettel

24th July 2019, 21:37 by Tom Hill

Charles Leclerc claims he is enjoying learning from Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel and is eager to better the German's results.

The pair have helped the Scuderia move into second in the Constructors' Championship standings but the Italian giants are some way behind Mercedes.

Mercedes sit 164 points in front of Ferrari as it stands but there is little to separate Vettel and Leclerc at present.

Neither driver has won a race in 2019 and Vettel currently sits three in front of his team-mate on 123 points.

The German has won four world titles to date but Leclerc is confident he can out perform him this season.

He told BBC Sport: "It was always going to be a very interesting challenge for me.

"I am at the beginning of my career. He is a very experienced driver and to have him by my side is very important because I can definitely grow a lot and learn a lot things from him, which I did from the beginning of the season.

"But it is also a great challenge for me to try to beat him, and that's what I am here for. I always want to be the fastest on track and I always try to give absolutely everything to be in front."
