Vettel plays down Hamilton rumours
Sebastian Vettel has seemingly laughed off suggestions he could be replaced at Ferrari by Lewis Hamilton at the end of next season.
Rumours have been emerging that reigning world champion Hamilton could leave Mercedes when his contract expires at the end of 2020 and succeed Vettel at Ferrari.
Vettel's own deal with the Scuderia is due to expire at the end of next season, but he has brushed off suggestions that Hamilton could replace him by joking that his rival already drives for the Italian team due to his Ferrari road cars.
"I think he is already a Ferrari driver, no?" a smiling Vettel told reporters. "So no change. He's a good customer - he has more than one!"
The German has also dismissed talk that he could opt to leave F1 altogether after next season by suggesting that the media seem to know more about his future than he does.
Asked about his plans for 2021, Vettel gave a tongue in cheek answer by saying: "I think already I am holiday next year. I heard before that I am stopping, so someone seems to know more than me.
"Since I guess you journalists are always right it will it hit me probably in the next weeks."
The four-time F1 champion will be hoping to enjoy a marked improvement during 2020, as he could only finish fifth in the Drivers' Championship standings this season, coming in 24 points behind Ferrari team-mate Charles Leclerc and 173 adrift of Hamilton's winning total.
