Hornby eyeing Haydock glory
Jockey Rob Hornby is eyeing up a successful afternoon as he gears up to ride Manuela De Vega in the Lancashire Oaks.
The four-year-old leads the betting in the five-strong field for the 14:40 over one-mile four furlongs at the Merseyside course on Sunday.
She made a winning return to action last time out, beating Fanny Logan by two lengths, to scoop the Group 3 Betway Pinnacle Stakes at the same track.
Hornby, who steered her to glory last month, is yet to win a Group 2 outing but feels Manuela De Vega is well placed to change that.
"If she repeats what she did there last time she'll be very competitive and I would imagine the plan would be to make the most of her stamina and have her on the pace," Hornby said.
"I've won a few Group 3s and been placed at Group 2 level before in the Lily Langtry Stakes at Goodwood, but this looks my best opportunity.
"Thanks to the owners and Mr Beckett for allowing me to keep the ride and it will be fascinating to see how she gets on."
