Howe hails Cherries striker

17th May 2019, 10:17 by Nick Harris

Bournemouth boss Eddie Howe says Josh King should be proud of his campaign despite missing his goal target.

King always sets himself a target of 15 goals a season but missed out this term when he netted 12, all in the Premier League, to finish behind team-mate Callum Wilson who scored 15 for the club.

Despite King not reaching his own personal target for the Cherries, Howe says he should be happy with his efforts.

He told the Echo: "He could've easily had more goals this season, but overall I've been pleased with his performances.

"I think that, for me, is always the true judge. It's not necessarily defined by how many goals you end up with.

"He's contributed to the team. He's always the type of player that, even if he doesn't score, is giving the team certain things that we need.

"He can be very pleased with his season overall."
