High praise for reported Cardiff target

20th May 2019, 17:57 by Tom McGarry

Reported Cardiff target David Turnbull has received high praise from his Motherwell team-mate Carl McHugh.

Scotland under-21 international Turnbull has enjoyed a breakthrough season with Motherwell this term, scoring 15 goals in 30 Scottish Premiership appearances from midfield, with his impressive displays also seeing him land the SFWA Young Player of the Year award.

The 19-year-old's performances have certainly come to the attention of clubs south of the border, with Cardiff, who are looking to bolster their squad ahead of their return to the Championship, set to rival the likes of Derby and Bristol City for his signature.

Turnbull's Motherwell team-mate McHugh feels the teenager is destined for the very top, as the Irishman has admitted that no one can get near him in training.

"Genuinely, he really has got so much ability he could go right to the top of the game," McHugh told the Daily Record. "He's got the temperament as well. He strolls through games and looks a class above everyone else.

"It's got to the stage in training now where no one goes near him – because you can't get near him – so everyone just let's him have the ball. Honestly, you can't even kick him!"

McHugh's comments could well add a few extra digits to Turnbull's valuation, with Motherwell expecting the youngster to become their biggest ever export if he does leave the club, surpassing the £1.75 million Celtic paid for Phil O'Donnell's services 25 years ago.
