PSG ‘monitor’ Bakayoko situation after Monaco breakdown

21st August 2019, 20:03

Paris Saint-Germain are still monitoring Tiemoue Bakayoko’s situation after Marina Granovskaia blocked his potential return to Monaco on loan.

The London Evening Standard claim PSG could rekindle their former interest in the player – which had thought to have died after the French champions swooped to sign Idrissa Gueye from Everton earlier this summer.

Prior to that, Bakayoko had made public his willingness to return to his home city and it seemed as though the feelings were mutual.

Former AC Milan sporting director Leonardo returned to the Parc des Princes this summer to take charge of their transfer business and it was he who lobbied for Bakayoko to join the Rossoneri on a season-long loan deal in Serie A for 2018-19.

PSG’s return to the table could turn out to be a negotiating tactic after Chelsea ran in to some issues in their talks with AS Monaco over various financial aspects of a potential deal for the player.

The Blues are desperate to get the £40million midfielder off their books as Frank Lampard’s midfield is stacked and he doesn’t have any use for Bakayoko.

He was hoping to land a switch back to his old club on loan, but reports have now claimed that Blues director Granovskaia has gone cold on a deal.

RMC Sport claim she has concerns about the possible damage to Bakayoko’s long-term value a year with Monaco could have amid fears the Principality are not “big enough” for the 25-year-old to showcase his talent.

Monaco were involved in a relegation battle last season, eventually just salvaging their Ligue 1 status and they won’t play in any Uefa competition this season.

Despite today’s report, Monaco remain hopeful they will be able to reach a breakthrough with the Premier League side.

The player’s representatives are unhappy with Granovskaia’s decision, especially as boss Lampard has made it clear Bakayoko does not feature in his first-team plans.

Whatever happens before the September 2 deadline, Chelsea’s incoming transfers from the summer of 2017 have not worked out well for the club.

The club forked out a total of £153million on four big-name players two years ago and it looks like none of the quartet will be featuring under Lampard this season.
