Palace career almost over for Souare
Pape Souare is said to be closing in on a return to France with his contract at Crystal Palace close to expiring.
Senegal international Souare joined the Eagles back in January 2016 and he was regular fixture during his first season-and-a-half in London, making 43 Premier League appearances.
However, the 28-year-old left-back has fallen down the pecking order since suffering serious injuries in a car crash back in September 2016 and he has played just nine minutes of league football over the past two seasons.
The Mbao-born star's contract is set to expire on July 1 and there are no suggestions Palace boss Roy Hodgson is going to put fresh terms on the table.
An exit is expected this summer and Marseille have cropped up as potential new employers after he travelled to their training ground this week to potentially broker a free transfer.
Souare has good experience of French football, having played for Lille and Reims before making the switch to England.
James Mason grew up in Northumberland so is entrenched in both the football and golf scenes. A low handicap golfer, he also follows Newcastle United and predicts big things under Rafa Benitez.
