Firmino gives Reds major CL final boost
Roberto Firmino has given Liverpool an early fitness boost for the Champions League final by returning to training.
The Brazil international missed the Reds' last three Premier League games of the season with a muscle strain but has made good progress in the past week, and the club has confirmed he trained on Tuesday alongside the rest of the first-team squad assembled in Marbella in preparation for the Euro final against Tottenham on June 1 in Madrid.
Liverpool released a statement on their official website updating Firmino's fitness situation, which read in part: "Firmino has been working with the club's medical staff on his rehabilitation from the issue and his reintroduction into full team training will be carefully managed under their supervision, with specialised programmes planned over the coming days."
In Firmino's absence, Divock Origi excelled in the final run-in, scoring the winner against Newcastle before his two goals in the 4-0 Champions League semi-final second-leg comeback over Barcelona.
However, if the former proves he is fully fit in the lead up to the Spurs clash, he is expected to return to Jurgen Klopp's starting line-up alongside Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah.
