Injury concerns stack up for Wolves ahead of Euro clash

Wolves have a number of injury concerns as they prepare to face Slovan Bratislava in the Europa League on Thursday.

Nuno Espirito Santo saw his side fight out a 1-1 draw with Southampton in the Premier League on Saturday, but was counting the cost afterwards as the injuries continue to stack up.

Fighting on all fronts was always going to stretch the Wolves squad and that is turning out to be the case at such an early point of the season, with Nuno facing a selection headache for the trip to Slovakia.

Ryan Bennett limped off in the first half against Saints at the weekend, while Ruben Neves also failed to appear after the break, with the club yet to reveal what the issue was with the Portuguese midfield ace.

Romain Saiss is already struggling with a hamstring injury, leaving boss Nuno short at centre-back for the Europa League Group K clash later this week.

The Wolves boss is still waiting to discover the full extent of the damage, but will be keeping his fingers crossed for good news after admitting Bennett’s exit had an impact on the way his side played at the weekend.

Nuno also admitted it is all hands to the pump as the fixtures continue to come thick and fast.

“The moment that Ryan had to go out, we lost a bit of the tempo. We started to rush the game, so it was not good,” he said. “I hope it’s not too serious. He could not proceed, so let’s see.

“Romain is coming back and I hope Ryan is not a big deal. We have a tough schedule and need everybody. We’ve had 18 games already, we have Thursday, then Sunday, it’s non-stop.”

Wolves sit just below mid-table in 12th in the Premier League following the 1-1 draw with Saints and cannot afford any more injury issues.
