Corey Thompson joins Gold Coast

30th June 2020, 17:07 by Bobbie Jackson

Corey Thompson is understood to have completed a move from Wests Tigers to Gold Coast Titans on a deal which runs until 2022.

News surrounding the world of Rugby League has become more and more active recently, and the latest to come from the Gold Coast camp is a new signee. Reports suggest that the team has signed Corey Thompson from Wests, with the deal lasting until the end of 2022.

The full-back or winger player scored 19 tries in his 44 appearances for the Tigers between the years of 2018 and 2020, and this came following brief spells as part of the Widnes and Canterbury sides.

Coach of the Titans, Justin Holbrook spoke of the signing as being great for the team, thanks to Thompson's speed and consistency as a full-back.

Those qualities were singled out as being important to Gold Coast, according to Holbrook, who cited the new ruck rules as being a reason for this.

"He brings good experience with over 100 top-level games in the NRL and Super League, he's played in a grand final", Holbrook said.

This led to Holbrook then pointing out that Thompson's best quality is that he brings great values to the club regarding the way that he prepares, as well as good and honest qualities in the way he interacts with both the coaches and the other Titans players.

While Thompson was contracted to the Tigers until the end of 2021, the team chose to let him go to the Gold Coast, despite not really wanting to lose him. However, Holbrook said that they were "grateful for the contribution he had made to their club" prior to his move to the Titans.

Rugby League Set to Get Better

Rugby League gameplay resumed on May 28, with restructured rules surrounding the 2020 season.

A 20-round home-and-away season will be taking place, and this has seen the grand final pushed back from its early-October date to the 25th of the month instead.

And it seems as though the resumption of competition has sparked a plethora of sports betting fans to get behind their favoured teams again.

Online sports betting sites have witnessed a surge in bettors wanting to place wagers on Rugby League games since it returned in May.

Many platforms are offering odds on games taking place within the league, and finding exceptional sportsbooks for this can be done through https://silentbet.com/, which reviews a variety of betting sites.

As far as Corey Thompson is concerned, his gameplay will continue to evolve as he competes for the Gold Coast side.

He's played an overall total of 136 games for various teams, with his 2016 season run for the Widnes Vikings seeing him named as the second highest try scorer in the league behind Denny Solomona.

Time will tell if he can help the Titans acquire a first-place finish for the remainder of the 2020 season.
