Gale expected to stay at Castleford

3rd September 2019, 16:35 by Nick Harris

Daryl Powell has dismissed suggetions that Tigers half-back Luke Gale could join rivals Leeds Rhinos.

Powell has had to do without the 2017 Man of Steel all season due to an Achilles injury and will no doubt be looking forward to getting him back on the field next season, or sooner if he is fit.

However, rumours suggest he may be on his way out of the club and the Rhinos are expected to spend again in the close season as they continue to turn around their struggling squad.

Half-back is a position Leeds need to fill but Powell has played down such speculation that Gale could be on the move to Headingley.

He said: "He is contracted so I don't see any reason why he wouldn't (stay) at this time. I've seen many strange things happen in rugby league, but he is a contracted player and I expect him to be here next year.

"Obviously he's not playing, Leeds are a team that's looking for a half-back - that's the way it is, people like rumours."
