Johnson to make Rhinos debut

11th September 2019, 19:22 by Dan McCarthy

Young Leeds Rhinos player Corey Johnson is set to make his senior debut for the club in their match against Warrington on Friday.

The 18-year-old has stood out at youth level for the West Yorkshire outfit this season and has now been moved up to the senior side.

He made two appearances for Featherstone Rovers on dual registration earlier this season but will now get a chance in the Super League.

Coach Richard Agar, who was handed the job on a full time basis recently after guiding the club to top flight safety, says the hooker has earned a spot in the side for their final game of the season.

"He has got a terrific engine and he's a gold-standard kid," Agar told the Yorkshire Evening Post. "He is a very good dummy-half and he can run.

"He has got plenty of leadership in him and my own personal opinion is he is a cracking young player.

"We don't expect too much too soon. We will get an opportunity to have a look at him on Friday and it gives him a bit of a taste.

"I feel he has got a lot of development and physical improvement in him."
