Lam happy to move on

19th January 2020, 19:08 by Tom Hill

Wigan boss Adrian Lam claims his players should not worry about Sunday's 22-10 defeat to Leeds Rhinos ahead of the new campaign.

Richard Agar's men travelled across the M62 on Sunday for Liam Farrell's testimonial match, with both teams at the end of their preparations for the 2020 campaign.

Wigan opened the scoring through Jake Bibby, while Willie Isa also crossed over. Richie Myler's effort before half-time gave Leeds hope and tries in the second half from Ash Handley, Muizz Mustapha and Liam Sutcliffe ensured they secured an impressive win.

However, Lam says there is no room for panic, and he was pleased to see Farrell get a superb reception, while Jackson Hastings also shined in the halves.

He told Wigan Today: "I told the players not to get emotionally caught up with the score. This was our first hit-out, I thought for 30 minutes in the first-half we were outstanding.

"It wasn't about the end result, it was about giving everyone an opportunity. This is about making sure we've got the right 17 players for the opening round.

"The two halves were outstanding, Bevan was exciting at times, I thought Liam Marshall looked good on the wing... there were some strong performances."
