Currie Cup comeback for Kolisi

5th August 2019, 17:23 by Simon Barlow

Springbok skipper Siya Kolisi is set to make his long-awaited return to action in a South African Currie Cup match this week.

The 28-year-old flanker has been sidelined with a knee injury in recent months and there were fears that he could still be missing when selectors named the squad for the Rugby World Cup later this year.

However, reports in South Africa claim Kolisi is likely to feature for Western Province in their Currie Cup encounter against the Pumas at Newlands on Friday.

Kolisi, who plays for Stormers in Super Rugby, could then be clear for a potential return to Test action when the Springboks face Argentina in a friendly match in Pretoria on August 17.

Duane Vermeulen is expected to continue as skipper in Kolisi's absence for this weekend's Rugby Championship clash with the Pumas in Salta when the Springboks name their team on Wednesday.
