Injury blow for England back-row
England are sweating over back-row forward Brad Shields after he left their training camp in Italy with an injury.
Eddie Jones took a 38-man squad to Treviso for a 12-day intensive training camp on Monday as they gear up for a warm-up game with Wales on August 11.
Shields, who boasts eight caps for the Red Rose, looks unlikely to be involved at Twickenham and could even miss out on the World Cup.
The Wasps ace was heavily fancied to make the final World Cup squad but has returned to the UK for further assessment after injuring ligaments in his foot.
Jones admitted earlier in the week that "some good players" had been left at home to work with their clubs and insisted "they must be ready if called up".
Harlequins forward Alex Dombrandt is one of those and he will head over to Italy to replace Shields in the squad.
England kick off their World Cup campaign against Tonga at the Sapporo Dome on September 22, before taking on the USA, Argentina and France in Pool C.
