Saints confirm Reinach departure

14th January 2020, 15:23 by Alex Jack

Northampton director of rugby Chris Boyd has admitted at the end of the season he'll be disappointed to lose scrum-half Cobus Reinach.

The Gallagher Premiership outfit confirmed on Tuesday that their South Africa international, who helped the Springboks win the 2019 World Cup in Japan, will be leaving the club at the end of the season.

Boyd has conceded it will be a big loss to lose a player who has already managed 29 tries in 70 appearances for the Saints.

"We respect that in the final years of his professional career, he's made a decision with the long-term future of his family in mind," he said.

"Saints supporters love watching him play, he has provided them with plenty of memorable moments."

Meanwhile, the player himself says the decision was not an easy one and he has enjoyed his time with the Saints at Franklin's Gardens after his move from the Sharks in 2017.

"This has not been an easy decision for me," he said. "I'll be sad to leave some great friends and team-mates."
