Injured Kent backed for flying return

16th September 2019, 12:34 by Andy Schooler

Ryan Kent is set to be sidelined “for at least a few weeks” due to injury but team-mate Andy Halliday has backed him to return to top form quickly.

Kent recently joined Rangers permanently from Liverpool having spent last season on loan at Ibrox, when he made a good impression.

He received a hero’s welcome before the 3-1 home win over Livingston but was forced off due to a hamstring problem after just 40 minutes.

Boss Steven Gerrard said: “We’ll assess it in the coming days but I predict he’ll be missing for at least a few weeks.

“It’s a blow for us – we wanted it to be all about Ryan today but it wasn’t to be. But we have enough bodies and enough talent to cope without him.”

However, Halliday says Kent has returned from such a blow before and will do so again.

He told the Daily Record: “It’s disappointing to lose him like that but he had a hamstring injury last season and came back flying.

“It’s up to Kenty to get his head down, work hard and come back to be the player we know he can be.”

Rangers return to action when they host Feyenoord in the Europa League on Thursday.
